About

A world-renowned hepatologist and gastroenterologist who founded ILBS — Asia's first dedicated liver institute and a deemed university — under the Government of Delhi. Credited with new treatment protocols for variceal bleeding, liver regeneration, hepatitis B and acute-on-chronic liver failure. Also Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Chronic Liver Diseases & Viral Hepatitis at ILBS. Former Chairman, Board of Governors, Medical Council of India (2010–11), shaping India's medical-education reforms; President, National Academy of Medical Sciences (2021–24); past President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, INASL and APASL. Founding Editor of Hepatology International.
