Dr. Parvathi Unninayar Iyer leads paediatric cardiac intensive care at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, and has more than 40 years of experience. She graduated from AIIMS, New Delhi, and trained in paediatric and neonatal intensive care at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. She was the first paediatric cardiac intensivist in India and opened northern India's first dedicated paediatric cardiac intensive care unit at the institute in 1995, as part of the first Indian programme to build an intensivist into the paediatric cardiac team. She has trained more than 30 paediatric cardiac intensivists now working in India and abroad.
