Dr. Naresh Trehan is Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, and a cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon with more than five decades in practice and over 48,000 open-heart operations to his credit. He completed his MBBS at King George's Medical College, Lucknow, in 1968, and became a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery in 1977 and of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery in 1979. He practised at New York University Medical Center from 1971 to 1988, then returned to India to found Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, which he led until 2007, before founding Medanta in 2009. He has been awarded the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan and the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award.
